[WLANware] Lowering frequency of ath5k into HAM frequencies

A friend of mine, Slavko, a HAM radio operator, would like to use 2.4
GHz WiFi on HAM frequencies. Is it possible to set those channels
directly with software through ath5k? It is even possible to do that
with Atheros?

He has done that with slight hardware modification of Linksys by
lowering the frequency. But the problem he is having with Linksys is
that on 2.6 kernel slottime (distance) is not yet supported (at least
with latest stable OpenWrt).

So, does anybody have some experience changing frequencies into HAM
range? What is good hardware for that with 2.6 kernel? Is it possible to
get 2.6 Linksys to configure for long links?
