[WLANware] WRT54GL v.1.1 + Freifunk Firmware 1.2.5

Pete,

well, it's a bit difficult to cope with daily Linksys product changes :-/
The Freifunk-does-not-run-on WRT54GL-v.1.1 has nothing to do with the
Samsung flash chip directly AFAIK. But obviously theres a changed strategy
to detect the flash memory layout in the whiterussian kernel since RC5 (only
versions since 18-july, search for bcm947xx_parts, which also fixes
accidently? the issue for WRT54GLv1.1):

https://dev.openwrt.org/log/branches/whiterussian/openwrt/target/linux/linux-2.4/patches/brcm/001-bcm47xx.patch

More critical than the installed "Firmware" (this is the version of Kernel +
Filesystem the vendor has flashed) is:

- Hardware version (exact chipset, RAM, Flashchip etc) changed?
- CFE version (the Bootloader which loads the Firmware) changed?
- NVRAM variables (may reflect changed hardware components) changed?

You may need a serial cable to have a look at the boot messages for the
bricked WRTs.

I just received an order of 15 Linksys WRT54GL units.
Half of them flashed ok, the other half bricked.
I can confirm that Freifunk works up to
S/N: CL7B1F616309 Firmware: 4.30.2
Another hint: If your unit has Firmware version 4.30.7 it Will brick.

I also tried "LEIPZIG" but it bricks just like Freifunk.
Are Freifunk developers working on this?
If not, has anyone created an openwrt with olsr that is compatable with
Freifunk? Or, are there easy instructions for installing openwrt and
installing modules to make it very usable with a freifunk olsr network? If
left with no other option, what is the second best hardware choice (with two
antenna ports) to use with Freifunk?
Thank you, -Pete
