whenever you use ap51-flash(-ng) you never have to configure anything. I suggest
you give it a try.

ap51-flash comes with its own lightweight network stack which is OS
independent. As I said before: The only part that needs to be ported are the 4
functions in socket.c. I strongly recommend checking the existing code before
you start all over again.
