Hi Sean,

great that you are interested in this project. The definition of where
this project could go lies a lot with you. We can discuss this in
following mails in details. Please talk to OLSR, Luci, OpenWrt
contributors who could give valuable feedback.

About freifunk as a project - it is not just one project, but many
projects. The freifunk community is more like a network itself and
also part of a network of contributors and projects. Freifunk is an
open organization and applied as an umbrella organization again this
year. We want to foster applications, tools, practical implementations
and know how to build free and open networks.

Any project supporting this is welcome. Personally, I am not seeing
the big difference between the OLSR, Freifunk, Ninux, Babel, BATMAN
and son on and so on communities. We are all somehow connected and
part of each others projects. As a matter of fact the community is
spread over many mailing lists, websites and IRCs mainly due to
historic growth. I am sorry, that it is sometime quite difficult to
look through this.

Generally you can start out on this mailing list and people will be
happy to direct you to the right person to talk to.

How to start:
1. Please add your project ideas to the wiki:
http://wiki.freifunk.net/Kategorie:GSoC
2. Join the freifunk-IRC
3. Join the wlanware mailing list
4. Join other relevant mailing lists
5. Talk to people who could support your application and who would be
willing to mentor it.

We are looking forward to follow up with you.

All the best,

Mario

Freifunk uses OLSR in their networks (and to some extents also B.A.T.M.A.N. of course). It is just that - for OLSR - the technical discussion is >handled >on the OLSR mailing list.
